Welcome to San Marcos Online!
San Marcos, Texas, is a vibrant and changing city halfway between Austin and San Antonio on the Interstate Highway 35 corridor.
Perhaps best known as the home of Texas State University, San Marcos also has beautiful outdoor attractions, an active town square, and some of Texas' most intriguing attractions. San Marcos is home to more than 20,000 college students and over 35,000 local residents, creating a diverse community composed of equal parts Texas' past, present, and future.
The area in and around the San Marcos River has sustained a constant human presence for more than 12,000 years, longer than any site in all of North America.
Several Spanish attempts at colonization began in 1755 and eventually led to the founding of the city in 1847 and the university in 1899.
On this website, we highlight aspects that make San Marcos unique. Often times overlooked due to its larger sister cities both north and south of town, San Marcos itself posseses a local charm all its own. Both during the day and night, San Marcos is an active city.
