Eco Chic

The Austin sewing community is eco-conscious. Sewing studios offer classes specifically designed to create garments out of scrap or thrift-store fabric. Austin's Maker Faire hosts an annual clothing swap called Swap-o-rama, where participants bring in unwanted articles of cothing and trade items with eachother. Once items are traded, free booths offer fashion reimaginings. At the end, everyone celebrated with a fashion show. Be it sewing patches to an old tanktop, studding a vintage tee or screen printing a boring bag, everyone leaves with something new-as well as clear conscience.

Check out the Maker Faire website and attend Swap-o-rama next year!
